Criminal Record Search (fingerprint submission) Definition:

A criminal record search via fingerprints is different than a criminal record search done by name and birth date that is offered by most police stations or third party companies.

A fingerprint search is processed by submitting a complete set of fingerprints to the RCMP in Ottawa.  A comparison is done in CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) database where all criminal records are held, via fingerprints, results are verified and mailed.

A criminal record search done by name and birth date is compared in CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) database by name and birth date comparisons - if there is a possible criminal information match, there may or may not be a release of information depending on the information found and the current policies.  Usually fingerprints are required, this will result in time delays and extra costs.

Criminal Record Search (fingerprint submission) Benefits:

Fingerprints are 100% accurate - no room for keystroke data entry errors or false identification.

Criminal Record Search (fingerprint submission) Limitations:

RCMP lengthy processing time

No local indices check
